The Philippine traditions and culture are unique
because they are greatly influenced by the country's colonization history. The people of the Philippines were
colonized by Spain for over 300 years, there was a significant
infiltration of the original culture by Spanish traditions, ways
of life and government. The Americans liberated the Philippines from the Spanish rule during the Spanish-American War in 1898. While there are significant number of Filipinos with American, Spanish, Chinese, and Arab ancestry, the modern day citizens are Austronesian stock. There are many tourist places of interest, a few of which includes; Manila, Cebu, Baguio, Davao, Boracay, Laoag, Palawan
and a host of others. While Roman Catholicism is the main
religion, English and Filipino are the official languages.
